CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. – Daniel Hardie scored the shootout winner Sunday as the Charlottetown Islanders defeated the Saint John Sea Dogs 6-5.

The Islanders built 2-1 and 4-1 period leads before Saint John scored four times on five third-period shots to tie the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League game.

Derek Gentile had a goal and two assists while Nikita Alexandrov and Hunter Drew each had a goal and a helper. Kevin Gursoy and Liam Peyton also scored.

Brett Budgel, William Sirman, Pierre-Olivier Joseph and Keith Getson had assists.

Robbie Burt had two goals and an assist to pace Saint John, which also received goals from Josh Lawrence, William Poirier and Days Corner native Charlie DesRoches.

Matthew Welsh made 18 saves for the win while Alex D’Orio was peppered with 48 shots in the Saint John crease.

The Islanders were 1-for-4 on the power play while the Sea Dogs were 2-for-5.

Charlottetown improved to 5-5-1-0 while Saint John is 2-6-2-1. The Islanders host Shawinigan Friday at 7:30 p.m.
