SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. — The P.E.I. entry in the Canadian 16-under girls invitational baseball championship staged a late rally Thursday morning.
The Island squad scored 11 runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to turn an 8-1 deficit into a 12-10 victory in the opening game of the round robin in Bedford, N.S.
Victoria Surrett (2-4, two runs scored), Keirstin Rodgers (1-1, run scored) and Claire Keough (1-4) all drove in two runs for P.E.I., which outhit New Brunswick 11-6. Lily Atkins, Selena Ford, Jeanna Pickering, Karli Snow, Emily Gardiner and Carys Jelley also drove in runs.
Ford, Snow, Keough, Gabrielle Livingstone and Katie MacDonald pitched for P.E.I., which was scheduled to play Newfoundland and Labrador later Thursday.
