The Halifax Hurricanes outscored the Island Storm 12-4 in the final two minutes Monday to win the National Basketball League of Canada contest 117-110.
Tyree White gave the Storm a 106-105 lead with 2:08 remaining, but Rhamel Brown restored the host Hurricanes lead 17 seconds later and Halifax would not relinquish it.
Former Storm guard Terry Thomas had a game-high 36 points to go with eight rebounds and an assist to pace the Hurricanes attack.
Joel Kindred and Tyler Thornton each chipped in 15 points in the win while teammates Mike Poole and Chadrack Lufile both had 14. Poole added seven rebounds, four assists, four steals and a block.
White had a team-high 30 points to go with nine rebounds, six assists, two blocks and a steal. Guillaume Boucard had 22 points and a team-high 13 rebounds. Jonathan Loyd and Alex Campbell each had 17 points.
The Hurricanes improved to 21-15 while the Storm is 10-24. The Storm goes to Saint John, N.B., Thursday in a pivotal game with Riptide (16-21) as the teams battle for the final playoff berth.
