KENSINGTON, P.E.I. — Riley Gallant scored a hat trick and added an assist for a four-point night in sparking the Kensington Moase Plumbing and Heating Vipers to an important win Sunday night.

The Vipers topped the Sherwood-Parkdale A&S Scrap Metal Metros 6-1 to take a 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven Island Junior Hockey League semifinal series. The Metros will look to pull even on home ice at the Cody Banks Arena on Wednesday at 8 p.m., and Game 5 will be played back in Kensington on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

The winner of this series will face the first-place Arsenault’s Fish Mart Western Red Wings in the league championship series. The Red Wings completed a four-game sweep of the Eastern Maniacs on Friday night.

Before a good crowd at Credit Union Centre, Kyle Pinksen (1-1), Riley Smith (1-1) and Tyler Gallant also scored for the Vipers. Noah Stewart and Dylan Wheatley added assists.
For the Metros, Nick Currie and Barrington Duffy set up Cale Pierce’s goal.
The Vipers held period leads of 1-0 and 3-0.
Winning goaltender Caleb Coyle turned aside 24 of 25 shots. Sherwood-Parkdale starter Matt Jelly gave up five goals on 29 shots in 41:43 of action, and Liam Jay stopped seven of eight shots the rest of the way.
Referees Thane Arsenault and Justin DesRoches assessed each team four minor penalties.
