The Philadelphia Eagles activated rookie Jalen Hurts to back up quarterback Carson Wentz against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday.

Nate Sudfeld was the No. 2 quarterback in the Eagles' Week 1 loss to the Washington Football Team and did not play. Sudfeld is inactive against the Rams.

ESPN's Chris Mortensen tweeted Sunday that fans shouldn't speculate that Wentz's starting job could be in jeopardy after he was sacked eight times and threw two key interceptions behind a makeshift offensive line last week.

"Carson Wentz is entrenched as @Eagles starter," Mortensen wrote. "Jalen Hurts can give them a different option if a couple situations present themselves."

Hurts started his college career at Alabama and transferred to Oklahoma. Last season, he ran for 1,298 yards and 20 touchdowns, and he compiled 5,149 yards of total offense for the second-highest amount in Sooners history. He averaged 275.1 passing yards and 92.7 rushing yards per game.

Wide receiver Alshon Jeffery, defensive end Genard Avery, guard Jamon Brown, running back Jason Huntley and guard Sua Opeta also are inactive for Sunday's game for the Eagles.
