Hurricanes cruise to 29-point victory over STU in men's basketball

CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. – Travis Adams scored 23 points while hauling in 16 rebounds Saturday as the Holland College Hurricanes defeated the St. Thomas Tommies 109-80.

Roosevelt (Chicken) Whyley had 26 points while Jace Colley had 23 points, seven assists, six rebounds, two blocks and two steals. Jordan Holness had 13 points, 10 assists, seven rebounds and six steals. Connor Therrien chipped in 11 points.

Omer Hassan had 16 points off the bench to pace the Tommies while former UPEI Panthers guard Almin Dervisevic had 15.

The Hurricanes hit 53 per cent of their shots but were only 5-for-23 (22 per cent) from three-point territory.

Holland College trailed 8-6 3:20 into the game but went on a run to take a 32-24 lead into the second quarter and 56-40 at the half. The Hurricanes led 89-56 heading to the fourth and never looked back.

First-place Holland College improved to 11-0 while St. Thomas (3-10) is seventh in the eight-team conference.

Holland College and Crandall were to play Sunday in Charlottetown, but the pending storm forced the postponement of the game. A date will be released in the coming days.
