CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. - The Holland College Hurricanes volleyball teams swept their Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association competition Saturday as the men downed the Universite Sainte-Anne Dragons 3-0 and the women scored a 3-2 comeback win over the St. Thomas Tommies.
The women erased a 2-0 deficit and took the match 25-23, 25-19 25-22, 25-23 and 15-13, thanks in part to Jasmine Smith’s 24 kills. Zayley Murphy added 12 and Brittany States 10.
Laura Ready set a new women’s team record for most assists in a match with 54 and tallied 10 service aces.
Taylor Allen had 19 digs, while States, Murphy and Smith chipped in 18, 17 and 12, respectively.
The second-place ‘Canes moved to 10-3 in the standings, while the Tommies fell to 6-9.
Holland College face the Dal-AC Rams Sunday in Truro, N.S.. Game time is 5 p.m.
On the men’s side, the ‘Canes chugged by the Dragons 25-18, 25-20 and 25-19, helped by Simon Archibald (nine kills), Riley O’Keefe (eight) and Brett Butler (six).
Nicholas Menzies dished out a match-high 22 assists, while Marcus Lapointe recorded a match-high 14 digs.
The ‘Canes (4-6) sit in third place. Universite Sainte-Anne (1-7) is fourth.
The Hurricanes host the UNBSJ Seawolves on Sunday. Start time is at 3 p.m. at Holland College.
