Wild hands Pride first loss

CHARLOTTETOWN – Round 1 in the Battle of Prince Edward Island in the 2018-19 New Brunswick/P.E.I. Major Midget Hockey League has gone to the Kensington Monaghan Farms Wild.

Sophomore Landon Clow and rookie Jack Campbell each had two goals and an assist to lead the Wild to an 8-2 victory over the Charlottetown Bulk Carriers Pride at the Bell Aliant Centre on the UPEI campus Friday night.
The win improves the Wild record to 3-1-1 (won-lost-overtime losses) while Charlottetown (3-1-0) suffered its first loss after opening the regular season with three straight road wins. The Island teams host games Saturday as the Wild meets the Northern Moose (1-7-0) from Bathurst, N.B., and first-place Moncton Flyers (6-0-0) visit the Pride. Both games are 7:30 p.m. starts.

Kensington and Charlottetown entered the first intermission of the Pride’s home opener tied 2-2. The Wild opened up a 5-2 lead after 40 minutes, and tacked on three more third-period tallies to put the game out of reach.
Lucas Parsons (1-1), Keiran Gallant (1-1), Dixon MacLeod and Bates Ling also lit the lamp for the Wild. Ryan Richards (2), Ethan Beaulieu (2), Matt McQuaid, Duncan Picketts and Zac Arsenault set up assists.
Luke Garnhum and Austin Callaghan replied for the Pride. Single helpers were credited to Chase Gaudette, Alex Graham, Sam MacNeill and Dylan Matthews.
Winning goaltender Chad Arsenault stopped 20 of 22 shots. Erik MacInnis turned aside 23 of 31 shots in the Pride goal.
