SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. — The Western Wind took a 1-1 (won-lost) record into Friday night’s game against the host Northern Lightning at the 2019 Atlantic midget AAA female hockey championship tournament in Bathurst, N.B.

After dropping a 5-1 decision to Station Six from Nova Scotia in the opening game of the round robin on Thursday afternoon, the Wind shut out the Fundy Nationals from New Brunswick 6-0 on Friday afternoon.

The Summerside-based Wind, champions of the P.E.I. Midget AAA Female Hockey League, will close out the round robin against the Eastern Icebreakers from Newfoundland and Labrador on Saturday at 3 p.m.
The top two teams after round-robin play will advance to Sunday’s championship game at noon. The third- and fourth-place teams will play for the bronze medal at 9 a.m.

Scoring
Hilarie Gaudet (2-1), Kylie Campbell (2), Paige Deighan (1-2) and Tianna Gallant (1-1) dented the twine for the Wind. Team captain Gracyn Handrahan added three assists while single were earned by Kyrsten Coyle and Josée Gallant.

Talynn Banks registered a 12-save shutout.
After a scoreless first period, the Wind scored the only four goals of the second period to take control.
