Western Capitals' MacArthur named second star of month

Summerside opens playoffs this weekend

SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. — Summerside D. Alex MacDonald Ford Western Capitals forward and assistant captain Brodie MacArthur has been named the MHL’s (Maritime Junior Hockey League) second star for the months of February and March.

The 19-year-old Summerside native had 11 goals and 25 assists in 15 games to lead the league for total points in the final month and a half of the regular season. MacArthur kept up his torrid scoring pace with 12 multi-point games over that period, and only twice was held scoreless.
His seven-game point streak to start the month included two games with three assists, and two more with one goal and three assists. He’d finish February with three straight three-point games, including a hat trick and game-winner in a 4-3 overtime win over Edmundston on the 28th.
MacArthur, who was named the MHL’s player of the year and an all-star on Monday, wrapped up the 2018-19 regular season with three assists in a 4-3 win over Miramichi on March 7, and then had two goals and an assist in a 5-4 shootout win over Campbellton on March 9.
MacArthur, who was named the league’s third star of the month for December and first star for January, finished the regular season first in goals (43), assists (67), points (110), power-play assists (20), power-play points (34), points per game (2.20), game-winning goals (10) and was tied for the league lead with four short-handed goals.

Playoffs
The Capitals will begin the road to the Canadian Tire Cup at Eastlink Arena on Saturday. The Caps will host the St. Stephen Aces in Game 1 of the best-of-seven Eastlink North Division semifinal series at 7 p.m.
Game 2 is in St. Stephen, N.B., on Tuesday.
