CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. – Matt Murphy and Mark Simpson each scored twice as the UNB Varsity Reds doubled the UPEI Panthers 6-3 Saturday in Atlantic University Sport men’s hockey action.

It was over early as the Reds scored 21 seconds in and made it 5-0 with 3:24 left in the opening period. The Reds held 5-1 and 6-2 period leads.

Patrick Watling and Chris Clapperton each added a goal and an assist in the win at MacLauchlan Arena. Tyler Boland had three helpers, Kris Bennett and Matt Boudens each added two and singles went to Olivier LeBlanc, Morell’s Stephen Anderson and Matthew Boucher.

Sam Aulie and Doug Blaisdell had a goal and an assist for the Panthers while Kameron Kielly also scored. Beau McCue, Gabe Guertler and Owen Headrick each added a helper.

Alex Dubeau made 25 saves for the win while Matthew Mancina allowed four goals on 11 shots in 16:25 before being pulled. Simon Hofley stopped 24 of 26 shots in 42:01 of relief.

Each team was 1-for-3 on the power play.

UNB improved to 4-0-0 while UPEI is 1-3-0.
