Teacher in Delta charged with child pornography related offences

A 52-year-old Surrey man is facing child porn charges.

Elazar Reshef, a teacher in the Delta school district but a resident of Surrey, was charged Thursday by the B.C. prosecution service with child pornography-related offences, Surrey RCMP said Friday in a news release.

According to the police, the Surrey detachment’s Internet Child Exploitation unit received an allegation from an internet service provider in March 2019 that the ISP had detected child pornography on a device connected to their network.

According to the police, the year-long investigation included a forensic examination of the the device. The police have not identified any children in the Lower Mainland as potential victims.

Because of Reshef’s role as a school teacher, the police said they are releasing this information “in the interest of public safety and to further the police investigation.”

The Teacher Regulation Branch lists Reshef’s licence as valid through June, 2021, indicating his licence was renewed in recent months. A search of TRB’s discipline database returned no records related to Reshef.

Anyone who may have information that could assist in this investigation is asked to contact the Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502.
