The Saint John Sea Dogs will select first overall in June’s Quebec Major Junior Hockey League’s draft.

They won the lottery for the second year in a row on Thursday while Acadie-Bathurst, the league’s worst team, will draft second. The Sea Dogs acquired the pick from Cape Breton in the Jason Bell-Olivier LeBlanc deal on Jan. 5. The pick originally belonged to Drummondville.

“It’s very exciting for us as an organization to have the first overall pick again this year,” said Sea Dogs general manager Darrell Young. “There are several players with high-end talent available. With the No. 1 pick, and three choices in the top-10, we’ve got flexibility to improve our club significantly.”

Saint John also owns the ninth and 10th in the first round. The ninth pick was acquired from the Charlottetown Islanders for defenceman Will Thompson. Charlottetown owns the fifth overall pick from the Alexis Pépin deal with Gatineau.

The QMJHL draft will be held Saturday, June 6 in Sherbrooke.
