YARMOUTH, N.S. – A quick start proved to be the difference for the Yarmouth Mariners against the Summerside D. Alex MacDonald Ford Western Capitals on Saturday night.

The Mariners struck for three goals in the game’s first 10:44 to open up a 3-0 lead, and they would not look back en route to a 5-1 victory in the MHL (Maritime Junior Hockey League) game.
The win improved Yarmouth’s record to 2-0 (won-lost) while the Caps, who opened the regular season with a 7-2 road win over the South Shore Lumberjacks on Friday night, fell to 1-1.
The Caps continue a season-opening four-game road trip against the St. Stephen Aces on Friday night and Miramichi Timberwolves on Sunday, Sept. 23. The Caps’ home opener is against the Edmundston Blizzard on Saturday, Sept. 29, at 7 p.m.

Caseley earns win
Before 1,205 fans at the Mariner Centre, the Mariners’ Tyler Caseley of Kensington stopped 28 of 29 shots in recording the goaltending win. Summerside starter Dominik Tmej was relieved by Daniel Thompson after giving up three goals on eight shots. Thompson gave up one goal on 28 shots in 49:01 of action.
Offensively, Logan Timmons scored twice while Brett Crossley added a goal and two helpers to pace the Mariners. Brent Broaders and Chris Goreham added single tallies while Matt Baron (2), Shawn Guison, Connor Peveril, Brady Crossley, Andrew Martell and Noah McMullin contributed helpers.

Kallum Muirhead, assisted by Kayden Peck and Noah Massie, answered for the Capitals, who trailed 4-1 after the first and second periods.
The Mariners went 2-for-4 on the power play, and the Caps failed to score on their three opportunities with the man advantage.
The game’s three stars were:
1. Brett Crossley (Mariners), 2. Logan Timmons (Mariners), 3. Matt Barron (Mariners).
