CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. – It’s show time for the New Brunswick-Prince Edward Island Major Midget Hockey League as the 2018-19 campaign launches tonight on two New Brunswick fronts.

The Northern Moose hosts the Fredericton Caps at 7:30 p.m. in Bathurst and the Kensington Monaghan Farms Wild land at the QPlex in Saint John to take on the Vito’s at 8 p.m.

The Vito’s enter the season with a strong mix of veterans and young players. Team captain, league MVP and scoring champion Caleb Kean is back to lead the team into the new season.

The defending league champion Moncton Flyers have seven returning players to guide the way, including Alex Gallant, Nic Bourque and Gabriel Goguen on defence, and Evan Jackson, Brock Forsyth, Patrick LeBlanc and Yannick Bastarache up front. Bourque and LeBlanc are both draft picks of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League’s Charlottetown Islanders.

The opening weekend wraps Sunday with two games, including a 2 p.m. game in Bathurst between the Moose and Vito’s and a 5:30 p.m. contest in Fredericton between the Caps and the Charlottetown Bulk Carriers Pride.

Kensington opens at home Saturday, Sept. 22, versus the Moose, game time is 7:30 p.m. at Credit Union Centre, while Charlottetown’s home-opener goes Friday, Oct. 5, against the Wild. Start time is 7:30 p.m. at MacLauchlan Arena.

The regular season runs for 35 games, ending Feb. 10 followed by provincial playoffs.
