WOLFVILLE, N.S. – Darcy Ashley had two goals and an assist Friday to lead the UPEI Panthers to a 6-3 win over the Acadia Axemen in Atlantic University Sport men’s hockey action.
Marcus Power also scored twice while Kameron Kielly had three assists during play in Wolfville, N.S.
Nathan Yetman shorthanded and Gabe Guertler also scored in the win. Ryan MacKinnon had two assists while Cody Payne and Beni Berisha had singles.
Ryan Foss and Geoff Schemitsch each had a goal and an assist for the Axemen while Taylor Makin rounded out the scoring. Matthew Pufahl had two assists while singles went to Sam Fioretti and Chance Braid.
Matt Mahalak made 25 saves for the win while Dawson Carty allowed three goals on 12 shots in the first period. Robert Steeves allowed two goals on 16 shots in relief.
The Panthers held 3-0 and 3-1 period leads.
Foss scored 4:13 into the third period on the power play before Ashley restored the two-goal lead four minutes later with the man advantage.
UPEI went 2-for-5 on the power play while Acadia was 1-for-5.
The Panthers won its third straight game to improve to 9-17-1 while Acadia has dropped five straight to fall to 15-10-2.
UPEI completes the weekend Saturday in Halifax with a 7 p.m. contest against Saint Mary’s.
