Panthers drop AUS women's hockey opener

CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. – Abby Clarke stopped all 31 shots she faced as the St. Thomas Tommies defeated the UPEI Panthers 4-0 Friday to open the Atlantic University Sport women’s hockey season.

Lauren Henman scored three times and assisted on Emily Oleksuk’s first period goal. Oleksuk added two assists while singles went to Olivia Reid, Leah Galati, Becky Conner and Alex Woods.

UPEI captain Emma Weatherbie and veteran Rachel Colle each had seven shots for the Panthers. Camille Scherger stopped 24 shots in the loss.

St. Thomas, which held 1-0 and 2-0 period leads, was 1-for-3 on the power play and killed both of the Panthers opportunities.

The Panthers host the Moncton Aigles Bleues Sunday at 2 p.m.
