Panthers beat Mounties 3-2

SACKVILLE, N.B. – Kaylee Dufresne scored the winning goal with 4:14 to play in regulation Wednesday as the UPEI Panthers defeated the Mount Allison Mounties 3-2 in Atlantic University Sport women’s hockey action.

Jolena Gillard on the power play and Rachel Colle also scored for the Panthers in Sackville, N.B. Caroline Daoust, Colle, Taylor Gillis and Leah Byrne had the assists.

Jordyn Clark and Mermaid’s Maddy Koughan replied with the Mounties goals while Heather Richards had the lone assist.

Camille Scherger made 25 saves for her 11th win of the season while Kaitlin Mowbray stopped 21 shots in the loss.

UPEI held 1-0 and 2-1 period leads. The Panthers went 1-for-3 on the power play while killing all seven of the Mounties chances with the man advantage.

The Panthers improved to 11-8-1 and sit tied for fourth place with UNB (10-7-3). The Mounties (3-17-0) are in the basement of the eight-team conference.

The Panthers host UNB Saturday at 2 p.m. at MacLauchlan Arena and the Mounties Sunday at 2 p.m. at the O’Leary Community Sports Centre.
