The Halifax Mooseheads acquired one of the top prospects from June’s Quebec Major Junior Hockey League draft on Tuesday.

Cameron Whynot, a six-foot-one, 167-pound defenceman from Kentville, N.S., was acquired in a deal that sent forward Xavier Parent to the Sherbooke Phoenix. The Herd also receive a third-round pick in 2021.

Whynot went ninth overall in this year’s draft. He was ranked fourth overall by central scouting heading into the draft but slipped as he was considering the NCAA route.

Parent was drafted fourth overall at the 2017 draft. The 18-year-old Blainville, Que., native had 29 points in his rookie season and 34 in his sophomore season of 2018-19 on a deep Halifax squad that hosted the Memorial Cup.
