CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. – Raphael Lavoie recorded his first career Quebec Major Junior Hockey League hat trick Thursday to lead the Halifax Mooseheads to an 8-2 thumping of the Charlottetown Islanders.

Antoine Morand had a goal and three helpers in the win while Samuel Asselin had two goals at the Eastlink Centre. Benoit-Olivier Groulx had a goal and two assists and Jordan Maher rounded out the scoring.

Jared McIsaac, Jake Ryczek and Justin Barron each had two assists while Lavoie, Patrick Kyte, Arnaud Durandeau and Joktain Chainey each added one.

Hunter Drew and Drew Johnston responded with goals for the home side with Thomas Casey recording the lone assist. Daniel Hardie, Nikita Alexandrov and Derek Gentile were each -3 on the evening.

Alexis Gravel made 35 saves for the win while Matthew Welsh allowed four goals on 15 shots in 20:43. Dakota Lund-Cornish allowed four goals on 24 shots in 38:56 of relief.

Halifax, which was 2-for-4 on the power play and killed all six of Charlottetown’s chances with the man advantage, held 3-1 and 6-2 period leads.

Halifax improved to 6-2-0-0 while the Islanders fall to 3-5-1-0.

The Islanders travel to Bathurst, N.B., Friday for a game with the Acadie-Bathurst Titan.
