Leafs recall Muzzin, Moore from conditioning stints with Marlies

The Maple Leafs have taken two steps closer to becoming whole.

On Saturday, the Leafs recalled defenceman Jake Muzzin and forward Trevor Moore from the Toronto Marlies. Both were on conditioning loans with the Leafs’ American Hockey League affiliate as they finish recovering from injury.

Muzzin has missed the past 10 Leafs games with a broken right foot; Moore has missed the past 12 games with a concussion.

Still injured for the Leafs are defenceman Morgan Rielly (foot) and winger Ilya Mikheyev (wrist). Neither will be back in the lineup soon.

The Leafs will gather in Nashville for practice on Sunday afternoon ahead of their game on Monday night in Music City against the Predators.

The two-game trip out of the break will continue on Wednesday in Dallas versus the Stars before the Leafs return home to play the Ottawa Senators on Saturday.

The Leafs will face an uphill battle once they hit the ice against the Predators. Toronto is four points out of a playoff spot, both in the Atlantic Division standings and in the wild-card race.

The Marlies, meanwhile, lost 5-4 in overtime in Cleveland against the Monsters on Saturday. Scoring for the Marlies, who have lost 10 of their past 12 games, were Ben Harpur, Nic Petan, Tanner MacMaster and Kenny Agostino. Pontus Aberg had three assists. Goaltender Joseph Woll made 19 saves in Toronto’s final game before the AHL all-star break.

Mason Marchment left the game in the first period and did not return.
