ANTIGONISH, N.S. – Filip Rydstrom’s unassisted goal with 4:16 to play was the winner in the UPEI Panthers 5-3 victory over the St. FX X-Men Saturday in Atlantic University Sport men’s hockey action.
Cody Payne, Doug Blaisdell, Owen Headrick on the power play and Troy Lajeunesse into the empty net also scored in the road win. Kameron Kielly had two assists while singles went to Gabe Guertler, Lajeunesse and Headrick.
Matt Needham, Holden Cook and Matthew Graham scored for the host X-Men with assists going to Adam Stevens, Adam Laishram, Sam Studnicka and Mark Tremaine.
Matthew Mancina made 27 saves for the victory while Chase Marchand stopped 26 shots in the loss.
The Panthers led 2-1 after the first and second periods.
UPEI was 1-for-5 on the power play while the X-Men were 1-for-6.
The Panthers improved to 6-5-1 while the X-Men fall to 7-5-2. UPEI hosts Acadia Friday and Saint Mary’s Saturday with both games beginning at 7 p.m.
