Islanders lose 4-1 in Halifax

Samuel Dube’s first major junior goal was the game winner Wednesday as the host Halifax Mooseheads defeated the Charlottetown Islanders 4-1 in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action.

Dube, the German-born centre, was the Herd’s first-round pick in the 2018 draft. He had three assists in his first 15 games.

Joel Bishop added an insurance goal and then an empty-net marker for Halifax while Raphael Lavoie opened the scoring 6:44 into the game. Samuel Asselin, Xavier Parent, Keith Getson, Patrick Kyte, Benoit-Olivier Groulx and Antoine Morand each had an assist.

Nikita Alexandrov from Noah Laaouan and Jordan Maher responded with the Islanders goal.

Alexis Gravel made 25 saves for the win while Matthew Welsh allowed three goals on 16 shots.

Halifax held 2-1 and 3-1 period leads. The Mooseheads improved to 37-11-2-1 while the Isles drop to 29-16-2-3.

Charlottetown host the Drummondville Voltigeurs (38-10-2-0) Friday at 7:30 p.m. The Voltigeurs defeated the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles 3-2 in a shootout Wednesday in Sydney, N.S.
