CHARLOTTETOWN – The Mount Academy Saints had a strong showing during a recent trip to Buffalo, N.Y.
The Kenny MacDougall-coached Saints posted three wins and suffering two overtime losses in the Under-16 Division of the Junior Women’s Hockey League.
"Our girls competed hard, travelling by bus to Buffalo, playing five games in three days and grabbing eight of 10 possible points,” explained MacDougall. “They are a resilient, gutsy, hard-working group!" The Saints defeated the Washington Pride 7-1, New Jersey Colonials 5-3 and the Boston Shamrocks 5-3. Their losses were 2-1 to New Jersey and 5-4 to the Philadelphia Junior Flyers at the Harbour Centre – the practice facility of the National Hockey League’s Buffalo Sabres and site of the NHL Scouting Combine.

Offensively, Abby Hustler of Miminegash led way averaging three points game. Hustler registered nine goals and six assists for a team-leading 15 points in the five games. Other top scorers for the Saints were Carly Thompson (3-1) of Cornwall; Sophie Bujold (2-4) of Riverview, N.B.; Jillian Kelly-Murphy (2-2) of China Point; Ally Stymiest (2-2) of Moncton, N.B.; Mya Chisholm (2 goals) of Summerside, and Chloe Hawes (1-3) of Stratford.
Tate MacDonald of Stratford and Meg Aiken of Sherwood, two under-age players, each scored their first goals of the season.
The Saints’ goaltending tandem of Kensington’s Hannah LeClair and East Royalty’s Frankie Hancock were solid.
Make history
The Saints will make history when they host the first-ever JWHL games on Prince Edward Island on Saturday, Nov. 24. The Saints will take on Newbridge Academy in back-to-back games at the Northumberland Arena in Murray River. Game times are 12:30 and 4 p.m.
