Huskies defeat Panthers in AUS men's hockey

CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. – The Saint Mary’s Huskies scored five unanswered goals in the third period Saturday to defeat the UPEI Panthers 9-2 in Atlantic University Sport men’s hockey action at MacLauchlan Arena.

The Huskies held 3-1 and 4-2 period leads in the second-place showdown. Saint Mary’s improved to 12-7-1, three points up on third-place UPEI (10-7-2). UPEI was 3-1 against Saint Mary’s before Saturday’s contest.

Anthony Repaci had a goal and three assists while Hunter Garlent had a goal and two helpers to lead the Huskies. Dylan DiPerna scored twice while Stephen Johnson, Bronson Beaton, Calder Brooks, Aaron Berisha and Logan DeNoble each added one.

Alexandar Peterson had two assists while singles went to Johnson, Noah Zibert, Brooks, Bradley Latour, Nick Welsh, DeNoble, Austyn Hardie and former Charlottetown Islanders forward Jake Coughler.

Riley Whittingham and Cody Payne scored for UPEI with assists going to Alex McQuaid, Andrew Picco and Doug Blaisdell.

Eric Brassard, another former Isles player, made 33 saves for the win while Simon Hofley allowed six goals on 23 shots in 46:54. Daryl MacCallum stopped three of the six shots he faced in relief.

UPEI was 0-for-7 on the power play while the Huskies didn't capitalize on their lone chance.
