CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. – Sam Higgins and Ibra Sanoh are this week’s Holland College Hurricanes athletes of the week.
Higgins, a Charlottetown native in her second season with the women’s hockey team, led the ‘Canes to two victories over the Acadia Axewomen during the team’s first home games of the season.
In Saturday’s 6-0 win, Higgins scored twice and added an assist while she had a goal and a helper in Sunday’s 4-2 win.
Higgins is studying in the accounting technology program.
Sanoh, a Conakry, Guinea, native in his final season with the Hurricanes, led Holland College to a bronze medal at the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) men’s soccer championship in Nanaimo, B.C.
Sanoh scored three goals in four games and was named to the tournament all-star team. Earlier in the week he was named the CCAA men’s soccer player of the year, which was the first time a Hurricanes student-athlete had ever received this award in any sport.
Sanoh also was named a CCAA all-Canadian for the fourth time while being named the Atlantic conference’s player of the year and a member of the all-conference team to cap off a big fall for the star striker.
Sanoh, who finished his Hurricanes career with team-record 101 goals, is studying in the marketing and advertising management program.
