SHAWINIGAN, Que. — Kevin Gursoy scored the winner in his return to the Charlottetown Islanders lineup Friday in Shawinigan, Que.
The Windsor, Ont., native scored a power-play marker 12 minutes into the second period as the Isles defeated the Cataractes 3-1 in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League play. Gursoy hadn’t played since being injured Feb. 14 against Gatineau.
Drew Johnston and Brett Budgell also scored while Zachary Beauregard had two assists and singles went to Cole Edwards and Patrick LeBlanc. Johnston was playing his first game since being injured Feb. 9 at Saint John, N.B.
Mavrik Bourque from Valentin Nussbaumer and Leon Denny replied for Shawinigan.
Matthew Welsh made 13 saves for the win while Justin Blanchette stopped 36 in the loss.
The game was tied 1-1 after the first period while Charlottetown led 2-1 heading to the third.
The Islanders were 1-for-6 on the power play and the Cataractes 1-for-5.
Charlottetown improved to 33-19-4-3 while Shawinigan is last in the Western Conference at 14-42-1-3.
The Islanders complete the three-game road trip with stops Saturday at Blainville-Boisbriand (22-37-2-0) and Sunday at Gatineau (22-34-3-2).
