FREDERICTON – Two former Summerside D. Alex MacDonald Ford Western Capitals contributed offensively to the UNB Varsity Reds on Monday night.

Stephen Anderson of Morell scored once while Chris Caissy, who was a key performer in the Caps’ run to the 2013 RBC Cup national championship game in Summerside, earned two assists as the Varsity Reds doubled the St. Francis Xavier X-Men 6-3 in Game 1 of the best-of-three Atlantic University Sport men’s hockey championship series before over 2,800 fans at the Aitken University Centre on the UNB campus.
Game 2 is in Antigonish, N.S., on Wednesday night, and should the X-Men force a third and deciding game it will be played back in Fredericton, N.B., on Friday evening.
Bedeque native Gardiner MacDougall is head coach of the Varsity Reds. Kinkora native and former Western Capital player Charlie Cameron is an assistant coach with UNB.
With UNB hosting the national championship later this month, both the Varsity Reds and X-Men have secured berths.
