Ellis was called up to the parent Montreal Canadiens late Friday night.

Since then, he was a healthy scratch for the Canadiens’ home game against Toronto on Saturday and their road game in San Jose on Monday night.

Ellis, 23, has been enjoying his most productive season yet in the American Hockey League. Prior to Friday’s call-up he registered 31 points in 56 league games with the St. John’s IceCaps, numbers that exceed his output in 157 games over the previous three seasons.

He’s the IceCaps’ leading defenceman, and his plus-8 rating is tops on the team.

In Anaheim, Ellis rejoins Mark Barberio on the blue-line. The pair had played together with St. John’s earlier in the season.

Game time in Anaheim is 11p.m., Atlantic Time. Sportsnet East is televising the game.
