Chlapik records first NHL goal

EDMONTON, ALTA. – Former Charlottetown Islanders forward Filip Chlapik has his first NHL goal.

The 20-year-old Czech native scored in the Ottawa Senators 6-2 loss to the Edmonton Oilers Thursday in the nation’s capital. The goal came 14:23 into the third period with assists going to Marian Gaborik and Bobby Ryan. It made the score 5-2 at the time.

Chlapik, who was recalled Monday from the AHL’s Belleville Senators, was +1, had two penalty minutes for holding, a hit and two blocks in 13:03 of ice time on Thursday. He saw 1:09 of time on the power play and four seconds while shorthanded.

He also has two assists in his 12 career NHL games.

The Senators selected him in the second round (48 overall) of the 2015 draft after his rookie season with the Islanders. Chlapik scored 75 points in his rookie season in Charlottetown in 2014-15 and followed it up with 54 points in 2015-16 and 91 last season. He has 10 goals and 20 assists for 30 points in 50 games for Belleville Senators.
