CORNWALL, P.E.I. — The Acadie-Bathurst Titan scored four third-period goals to defeat the Charlottetown Islanders 5-2 Thursday in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League pre-season action in Lameque, N.B.

The Islanders led 2-1 after the first and second periods despite being outshot 24-6 and 19-3 in the first two periods, respectively.

Mermaid defenceman Cole Larkin scored the winner about five minutes into the third. Nicolas Kingsbury-Fournier scored the first two goals for the host Titan, which iced a lineup with more veterans than the visiting Isles. Tristan Roy and Shawn Element (empty-net goal) also scored.
Dell Welton and Keiran Gallant scored for the Islanders with defenceman Nathan Martel being credited with the only assist for the visitors.

Tyriq Outen stopped all five shots he faced for the victory in relief of Pierre-Vincent Guignard, who allowed two goals on eight shots in the first 31:08.

Nolan Boyd stopped 37 of 38 shots in 31:08 before being replaced by Isaak Pelletier, who allowed three goals on 17 shots in the second half of the game.

The Titan went 2-for-5 on the power play, killed all three of the Islanders’ chances and won 45 of the 65 faceoffs.

The teams have a rematch today at 3 p.m. at the APM Centre in Cornwall.
The Islanders traded Martel to Drummondville on Friday for 18-year-old goalie Hugo Chiasson.

Martel was picked in the sixth round (100th overall) of the 2018 draft after playing for Gatineau’s midget AAA squad with Islanders’ prospect Anthony Hamel. Martel, 18, was stuck in a number’s game as the Isles try to pare down it blue-line prospects.

The Islanders have seven defencemen in camp with four more arriving when returnees show up on Sunday. The returning guys are Lukas Cormier, Noah Laaouan, Brendon Clavelle and Xavier Bernard.

Chiasson, a five-foot-10, 174-pound Montreal native, played for the Chateauguay Grenadiers midget AAA squad in 2018-19. He was an eighth-round pick (132nd overall) of the Chicoutimi Sagueneens at the 2017 draft. Chicoutimi traded him to Drummondville Friday for defenceman Hugo Savinsky. Chiasson had a 3.29 goals-against average and .900 save percentage. He will go on the Islanders’ protected list in case Charlottetown has an injury while playing in Quebec this season. Chiasson will not be reporting to Charlottetown for training camp.
