CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — The Central Attack scored five times in the first period to defeat the Eastern Express 10-1 Saturday in Game 1 of the Prince Edward Island bantam AAA hockey final.

Game 2 in the best-of-five series goes Monday at 7:30 p.m. at the Pownal Sports Centre.

Caleb MacDonald from Reese McIsaac opened the scoring for Eastern six minutes into the game at MacLauchlan Arena, but the lead was short-lived as Cam Squires tied it 11 seconds later.

Colby Huggan had a hat trick in the win while Brett Arsenault had two goals and an assist and Cam Squires chipped two helpers for a three-point night.

Landon MacDonald, Jonah MacDonald and Kal White each had a goal and an assist while Tyler Worth also scored. White’s marker was the game-winning goal. Max Sentner and Bates Ling each had two assists while singles went to Luke Coughlin, Isaac Vos, Jamie Collins and Keegan Callaghan.

Jack Howatt made 18 stops for the victory while Ethan Smith stopped 28 of 36 shots in 40 minutes of action. Nathan Bailey stopped 10 of 12 shots in relief.

The Attack, which held 5-1 and 8-1 period leads, was 2-for-6 on the power play and killed all five of Eastern’s opportunities with the man advantage.
