Capitals use big second period to pick up road win

MIRAMICHI, N.B. – Conor MacEachern, Kayden Peck, Kallum Muirhead and Sam Meisenheimer each had three points as the Summerside D. Alex MacDonald Ford Western Capitals defeated the host Miramichi Timberwolves 8-3 Friday in Maritime Junior Hockey League action.

The Caps turned a 2-1 deficit after the first period into a 6-3 lead heading to the third.

Muirhead scored twice while singles went to MacEachern, Peck, Zach Thususka, Calum MacPherson, Brodie MacArthur and Chandler Wood.

Meisenheimer had three assists while MacEachern, Sullivan Sparkes and Peck each had two and singles went to Muirhead, Bennett MacArthur, MacPherson, Noah Massie and Josh MacDonald.

Charles-Andre Cypihot and Christ Murphy had a goal and an assist for Miramichi while Jason Gallant added a goal and Johnny Foley and Eric Pelletier each had an assist.

Daniel Thompson made 30 saves for the win while Tanner Somers allowed eight goals on 44 shots in the loss.

Summerside, which was 2-for-4 on the power play and killed both of the host squad’s chances, improved to 15-3-0 while Miramichi dropped to 8-8-2.

The Capitals host the Campbellton Tigers Saturday at 7 p.m.
