A former Summerside golf pro is making the move to Mill River.
Don MacDougall, owner of the Mill River Resort, recently introduced Dallas Desjardins as the facility’s new director of golf, effective April 1.
MacDougall said he knew Desjardins only by reputation before offering him the Mill River position.
“I learned a long time ago, if you’re going to have a successful venture, it is really important to have a successful team, the right players,” he said, describing Desjardins as “the latest major addition to the senior team that we need to put in place here to cause the place to realize its potential.”
The reputation extends beyond Desjardins’ golfing acumen.
“’Dallas’ reputation not just as a golf pro, but his particular accomplishments in the area of youth development is unparalleled, as far as I can figure out. That’s really, really important to us, and we see it as really important to the property,” MacDougall commented.
“We like to think we can do for golf in P.E.I. what Allan Andrews (Andrews Hockey Growth Programs) has done for hockey on P.E.I. That’s not possible without the leadership Dallas can provide.”
Desjardins reciprocated the kind words.
“I’m excited to work under a visionary, such as Don, who has been involved in many different things over the past number of years.”

Desjardins said he is excited about the many components Mill River has to offer, a championship of course, a driving range and a three-hole practice course as well as the other attractions including the resort and campground, aquaplex and tennis courts.
“With the direction this place is going, I know there’s a lot of potential here and I know, with the team he’s building, it’s going to be realized in a very short amount of time.”
He’s hoping to incorporate knowledge he gained from working as a director with the National Golf Course Owners Association.
“I was able to see every single different type of operation, from small, short Par-3, 9-hole Mom-and-Pop type courses up to, arguably some of the best golf courses, literally, in the world.”
Lorie Kane, Mill River Resort’s golf ambassador, welcomes Desjardins to Mill River’s senior team.
“Dallas is a very forward thinker and someone I am really looking forward to working with, to grow the game at Mill River but also the whole resort experience,” she commented.
