Seth Fraser scored in overtime to send the Charlottetown Abbies into an on-ice celebration at Credit Union Place recently.
Fraser scored at 1:41 of overtime to lift the Abbies to a 3-2 win over the New Glasgow Bombers in the championship game in one of two divisions of the 2020 Centennial Auto Group bantam A hockey tournament in Summerside.
The Bedford Blues/Blue defeated the TASA Ducks/Black in the other division final.
Adam Jay netted both Charlottetown goals in regulation time while Maddux MacKenzie and Brady Croft countered for the Bombers.
Cohen Munn of the Abbies was named the tournament’s all-star goaltender. The Bombers were the only team to score on Munn, who registered three shutouts.
The Abbies’ Zack Zakem was named the tournament most valuable player.
Undefeated weekend
The victory capped off a perfect weekend for the Abbies, who completed play in the three-day event 5-0 (won-lost).
After defeating the Bombers 5-4 and back-to-back 7-0 shutouts of the Dartmouth Whalers and Tignish Aces, the Abbies blanked the Morell Mustangs 6-0 in a semifinal game. The Bombers’ road to the final included round-robin wins of 6-1 against the Northumberland Bruins and 5-2 versus the Summerside Capitals along with a 2-1 quarter-final game victory over Dartmouth and a 1-0 overtime decision against the O’Leary Maroons in the semifinal.
Conrad Roberston scored the overtime winner against O’Leary.
