SUMMERSIDE – P.E.I.’s four Canada Games curling training teams have been decided.

The two boys and two girls’ rinks were selected following Trials No. 1, which wrapped up at the Silver Fox in Summerside on Sunday afternoon.
Mitchell Schut from the Cornwall Curling Club and the Charlottetown Curling Complex’s Chase MacMillan skip the two boys’ entries.
The Lauren Ferguson team from Cornwall, Crapaud and Charlottetown, and the Sydney Howatt foursome from Cornwall are the girls’ training teams.
These teams will receive additional training and support in advance of Trials No. 2 in November at the Cornwall Curling Club, where the two teams that will represent P.E.I. at the 2019 Canada Winter Games in Red Deer, Alta., from Feb. 15 to March 3, will be selected.

Sydney Howatt’s Cornwall Curling Club rink is one of two girls’ training teams for the 2019 Canada Winter Games. Team members are, from left: Sierra Clyke, third stone; Howatt; Meghan Sherren, second stone; Madelyn Cantwell, lead, and A.J. Campbell, coach.

Chase MacMillan and his Charlottetown Curling Complex rink have earned a boys’ training team position for the 2019 Canada Winter Games. MacMillan, left, and his teammates are, from second left: Jack MacFadyen, third stone; Liam Barbrick, second stone; Davis Nicholson, lead, and coach Rob Roberts.

Lock up spot
Schut was the first to lock up a training team spot, winning his first three games in the three-team double round-robin competition. He lost his fourth game to MacMillan, who finished with a 2-1 (won-lost) record.
A scheduled game between MacMillan and the Cruz Pineau team (0-3) was not required as it would not have affected the outcome.

Mitchell Schut’s rink from the Cornwall Curling Club has secured one of two boys’ training team spots for the 2019 Canada Winter Games. Members of the team are, from left: Schut, third stone Nick Johnston, second stone Liam Kelly, lead Colin MacKenzie and coach Bill Hope.

Ferguson and Howatt both finished with 3-1 records.
Howatt lost her opener to Ferguson, who dropped a decision to Cornwall’s Rachel MacLean (2-2).
Clubmates Howatt and MacLean were tied with 2-1 records going into the last round. Howatt posted a 7-3 victory in the head-to-head meeting between the two rinks.
The Clara Jack and Emily Sanderson teams from Cornwall both finished 1-3.
