Sunshine Village

Over at Sunshine Village, it’s almost like a switch goes off when the calendar turns to March. All of a sudden, it seems like they just pack their schedule with events. Every weekend, for example, the resort hosts a Base Camp BBQ so that skiers and snowboarders can kick back and relax for a little while before packing into their cars are heading back home. That’s definitely not all, though, and on March 14 the Banff resort will be playing host to Rise of the Village, an invite-only park event that features some of the best riders around showing off with some of their gnarliest tricks. Mother Nature seems to be co-operating in a big way, too, as the 73 cm (!!!) of powder that fell in the last week brought the season total to an incredible 721 cm.

Lake Louise

We all know that as the season progresses and the sun stays up in the sky just a little while longer, there’s no rush to get off the mountain. And there might not be any better way to end a day of skiing or snowboarding than by (responsibly) enjoying a cold craft beer. On March 14, you can do just that at Lake Louise. The resort will be hosting its annual Brewski Festival on that mid-March Saturday at the outdoor Whiskey Jack Lounge, so guests can kick back and listen to music while trying out $2 samples from local breweries that are travelling in from across Alberta and B.C. Lake Louise is in the midst of a dream season, too. The season total sits at 626 cm after the Banff National Park mountain was blessed by 58 cm over the past seven days.

Norquay

We like to make sure skiers and snowboarders get a solid heads-up in advance of every one of Mount Norquay’s Cool2CarPool days, because there are few deals available anywhere in the mountains than what the Banff resort offers up. The next Cool2CarPool Day is next week, on March 11, and everyone who – legally – rides in a vehicle to the resort together splits the $89 cost to get lift tickets. That’s an unreal deal, so again, it’s worth circling March 11 on your calendar and getting friends together to make the short trip, especially because Norquay’s seen 32 cm of snow in the past week and 362 cm since the start of the season.

Nakiska

We’re still a couple weeks away from March Break, but they’ve got big plans for the annual school holiday this year at Nakiska. The Kananaskis resort will have all the usual lessons and fun scheduled, and this year the barbecue pit will be open and there will be a massive scavenger hunt for anyone who wants to spend their day exploring all that Nakiska has on offer. The resort has been on the receiving end of 28 cm of new snow in the past week and that brought the season total to 286 cm.

COP

Right now, WinSport is offering absolutely insane discounts on its spring passes. For adults, passes that offer unlimited skiing and snowboarding are going for only $189.99, while it’s even cheaper for kids, with passes going for only $129.99. That’s a wild deal, but anyone looking to take advantage needs to move fast. The deal only lasts 72 hours and ends on Friday.

Marmot Basin

Between this weekend’s Marmot’s Revenge Ski Mountaineering race and everything else going on at Marmot Basin this month, it’s a busy time of the year up in Jasper. One of the highlights is sure to be the Hot Dogs and Hand Rails competition March 21, where skiers and snowboarders can show off the moves they’ve been working on all season in the mini-rail park – and get a hot dog with their $5 entry fee. Marmot’s been having a powder-heavy season, and the 31 cm of snow that fell in the past six days brought the season total to 397 cm

Castle Mountain

There’s no shortage of reasons for Calgarians to make the drive down south to Castle Mountain. The snow alone – 15 cm in the past week and 814 cm this season – is undeniably worth making the trek. But they’re going above and beyond this spring with a tonne of events for guests. We won’t go into all of them, but weekend guests are going to love the Beats in the Base music series, which goes every Saturday and Sunday with live acts and an outdoor bar designed to transform the base area into a “giant, snowy beach.”

Fernie

It’s International Women’s Day on Sunday, and they’re getting in the spirit in Fernie. The B.C. resort will be hosting a “Get the Girls Out” event presented by SheJumps with a simple goal: Get women outside and on skis and snowboards. The event offers everything from first tracks to breakfast to on-mountain activities to a women’s après event, so there really is something for every woman. Oh, and there’s a tonne of snow, too. While there hasn’t been a tonne of the fluffy white stuff falling in the past week, the season total of 777 cm means there’s still incredible coverage everywhere on the mountain.

Kicking Horse

Just because kids get a week off school in March, that doesn’t mean they have to stop learning. The good folks at Kicking Horse understand that, and that’s why they offer special three-day camps to help get kids exploring the mountain with confidence. There are camps available from March 17-19 and March 24-26 this year, and kids who are signed up will get daily 2.5-hour lessons. There’s a tonne of powder at the Golden, B.C., resort, too, as the 44 cm that blanketed the slopes in the past week brought the season total to 702 cm.

Revelstoke

It has been an absolutely insane season at Revelstoke. Even by the B.C. resort’s usual crazy standards, 2019-’20 stands out. In fact, they’re having the second-snowiest season in their entire history, and the 32 cm of fresh powder that fell in the past week brought the season total to an absolutely unbelievable 942 cm. As part of their celebrations for International Women’s Day, Revelstoke will be hosting its first annual She Patrol Mentorship Day, where female ski patrollers will show younger women what a day on the job really looks like.

Panorama

There might not be a resort anywhere in the Rockies that has a better understanding of the connection between music and the mountains better than Panorama. The Invermere, B.C., ski hill has always been committed to bringing bands, DJs and other musicians out to serenade skiers and snowboarders with their songs, and this March they’re doubling down with the High Notes Music Series. There are performances by Elk Run & Riot on March 7, Graham Jr Richardson on March 12, Kane Incognito on March 21 and a bunch more. Panorama has been hit with 17 cm of new snow in the past week and 396 cm so far this season.

Whitefish

There’s something going on just across the border. Something amazing. At Whitefish – voted the third-best ski area in North America by readers of Ski Magazine this year – the snow gods have been incredibly kind recently. In fact, the Montana resort was blessed with 8 cm of powder in the past week and that brought the season total at the summit to 606 cm.
