Doucette has key blast in Bombers victory in KCBL play

PEAKES, P.E.I. – Dillon Doucette hit a towering two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth to the lead the Peakes Tee Bombers to a 4-3 victory over the Morell Chevies Wednesday in Kings County Baseball League action.

Josh Coffin threw six innings to get the win for the Bombers, giving up three runs on eight hits while Doucette came on in the seventh for the save. Brett Hicken was the tough-luck losing pitcher, scattering eight hits and giving up four earned runs in a complete-game effort.

The Chevies mounted an early 2-0 lead in the second off three consecutive hits by Troy Coffin, Darcy Affleck and Mike Ellsworth and got one more when Affleck hit a solo shot in the fourth inning. The Bombers answered quickly as Rob Phelan ripped a two-run double in the bottom half of the fourth and topped off the comeback with Doucette’s blast in the fifth.

Doucette and Phelan were each 2-for-3 to lead the Bombers while Affleck and Ellsworth were each 2-for-3 and Scott Harper 2-for-4 to the pace the Chevies attack.

The two teams continue their battle for first place on Sunday when they play a doubleheader in Peakes beginning at 1 p.m.
