Corney, Toole lead Metros past Flames in junior C hockey

CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. – Shawn Corney (2-3) and Logan Toole (1-4) each had five-point games Monday to pace the first-place Sherwood Metros to a 7-2 victory over the North River Flames in Razzy’s P.E.I. Junior C Hockey League action.

Will Levasseur scored twice in the victory while Marc Cummiskey and Jonathan Gormley added singles at Cody Banks Arena. Patrick Kenny, Brad Jenkins, Levasseur and Cummiskey each had an assist.

Tanner Hood and Blake Gallant scored for North River with Griffin Hughes credited with the lone assist.

James Duffy made 34 saves for the victory while Connor Chapman was peppered with 63 shots in the loss.

The game was tied 1-1 after the first and the Metros took a 5-2 lead to the third. Sherwood was 2-for-3 on the power play and killed all three of North River’s chances with the man advantage.

The Metros improved to 17-2-0 while the Flames are 7-12-2 and in third place in the four-team circuit.
