Canucks off-season poll: Have your say on what’s to come in 2020-21

There are some pressing questions in front of Vancouver Canucks management. They need to set their roster, both in re-signing free agents and in making some tough roster decisions.

Free agents

The NHL’s buyout window opens Friday. There’s two weeks to go until the free agency window opens. The Canucks have about $15 million in salary cap space and need to sign a half dozen players.

We know change to the Canucks’ roster is inevitable as there’s not enough room under the cap to retain all their free agents, unrestricted or otherwise.

Will the following players be back for the 2020-21 season?

Jacob Markstrom (unrestricted)

Chris Tanev (unrestricted)

Tyler Toffoli (unrestricted)

Jake Virtanen (restricted)

Troy Stecher (restricted)

Tyler Motte (restricted)

Josh Leivo (unrestricted)

Roster moves

Loui Eriksson could get bought out, but in the short term there’s little cap relief to be had. He has just two years left on his deal.

Will he be a Canuck in 2020-21? Will he be traded? Will he be waived and sent to Utica? Will he retire?

Brandon Sutter has just one year left on his deal. He was a useful checking centre in the playoffs and may have some trade value. Will he be traded?

Roster needs

There are changes to come. Should the Canucks chase after another defenceman in a trade?
