HALIFAX – Ethan Boyd of Summerside will continue his volleyball career in the Atlantic University Sport conference.
Dalhousie Tigers head coach Dan Ota announced the commitment of Boyd for the 2018-19 season in a media release on Thursday afternoon.
“We are excited to add Ethan to the Tigers’ family,” said Ota. “I consider him one of the top prospects in Atlantic Canada this year, and he will be a good fit with our team’s emerging young core of players.
“Ethan has good physical potential to excel at the U SPORTS level, but what also impresses me is his maturity and his commitment to learning.”
A six-foot-three outside hitter, Boyd has enjoyed great success at the club and provincial level, and will bring a wealth of experience to the Tigers.
“I’m looking forward playing for the Dalhousie Tigers,” offered Boyd. “Not many people get to play at the next level, and to do so for a program as successful as Dal is really exciting.”
Boyd, who turns 18 on Monday, will become a second-generation Tiger as he follows in the footsteps of his father, Stephen Boyd, who played four seasons with Dalhousie from 1987 to 1991.

Boyd has been a crucial part of the Three Oaks Axemen’s success the last three years, leading them to a 38-0 win streak while collecting three consecutive Prince Edward Island School Athletic Association (PEISAA) senior AAA provincial championships. Boyd earned first-team all-star nods each season, and was named the most valuable player at the end of the 2017 season.
Boyd also has three Volleyball P.E.I. provincial titles under his belt with his club team, Summerside Slammers. A four-time provincial club championship all-star, he and his team will go after their fourth title in a row next spring.
A member of Volleyball P.E.I.’s provincial team program since 2016, Boyd represented his home province at the 2017 Canada Summer Games in both the indoor and beach volleyball competitions.
Boyd, who will graduate from Three Oaks Senior High School in June 2018, intends to enroll in the business management program at Dalhousie.
