Island Storm busy announcing players coming to training camp

A look at the players the Island Storm has announced in the past week for its training camp as it gets ready for the 2019-20 National Basketball League of Canada regular season. The Storm had previously announced the return of point guard Johnathan Loyd.

Abrian Edwards

Hometown – Pflugerville, Texas.

Height/position – Six-foot-five guard. Coach Tim Kendrick said he is versatile enough to play the one, two or three and noted his size and athleticism.

University – William Penn University.

Did you know – Ranked No. 1 in assists in NCAA Division 1.

Kendrick said: “We think he’s a young player with a very high ceiling. . . In our system, (he’s) a kid that we can play in multiple spots is a real advantage and he can definitely, skill-level wise, handle those three spots.”

Nathaniel Wright
Hometown –
Murrieta, Calif.

Height/position – Six-foot-six forward. Kendrick said he is a big athletic forward who could play the three, four and five depending on the matchups.

Did you know – Wright played for San Diego Kings in the American Basketball Association, the Harlem Globetrotters and was a teammate of the Island Storm’s Robbie Robinson in the Drew League.

Joe Boyd

Hometown – Scottsdale, Ariz.

Height/position – Six-foot-nine forward.

University – Cal State San Marcos.

Did you know – led the California Collegiate Athletic Association in rebounds

Height/position – Six-foot-10 forward.

University – University of North Carolina Charlotte (UNCC).

Did you know – Haslem was awarded the UNCC 49ers’ Hayward Grubstake Award, which is given to the player who exhibits great effort and determination.
