Kristen Gosse didn't have far to look for a recommendation when she considered attending Holland College in Charlottetown, P.E.I., and playing basketball for the Hurricanes.
“I chose to enroll at Holland College because my sister played with the women’s soccer team and spoke very highly of her time with the Hurricanes,” said Gosse, a Goulds native and recent graduate of St. Kevin’s High School..
Meghan Gosse was a keeper for the Holland College women’s soccer squad last year. Kristen is a guard who will suit up for the Hurricanes women’s basketball team this fall in the Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA).
“My shooting is consistent, I always hit the boards hard and I have a rounded basketball IQ,” she said. “I will bring positive energy, determination and hard work to help the Hurricanes become championship contenders.”
Gosse has competed as a member of Newfoundland and Labrador’s provincial teams in recent years, including at the 2017 Canada Games in Winnipeg.
She was the female athlete of the year at St. Kevin’s this past season while also being named basketball MVP and defensive player of the year.
“Kristen is another key addition to our youth movement,” said Hurricanes head coach Jared Cheverie. “She is a strong shooter with a high IQ and great vision on the floor. Her length will be valuable on the defensive side of the ball and we are looking forward to watching her game develop into a skilled guard in the ACAA.”
The Hurricanes missed the playoffs a year ago with a 7-14 record after winning the conference from 2015-17. They won bronze and silver medals at nationals in 2015 and 2016, respectively.
Gosse is enrolling in the sport and leisure management program.
The Hurricanes begin their regular season on Saturday, Nov. 2, when they visit the Mount Saint Vincent Mystics in Halifax.
