Stealers defeat Sluggers in women's fastpitch action

CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — The Pro Cresting Stealers used five consecutive hits to score five runs in the top of the fourth inning en route to a 6-1 victory over the Subway Sluggers in recent Island Female Fastpitch League action.

The game was scoreless through three innings before the Stealers, a senior women’s team, struck. The Sluggers, one of the Island’s two masters squads, got one back in the bottom of the inning. The Stealers answered with a run in the fifth to complete the scoring in the well-played defensive game.

Sydney Halliwell earned the win, allowing a run on two hits and three walks while striking out four in four innings of work. Jada Yeo gave up a hit and walked two in three innings of relief. She struck out two.

Tammy Murphy went the distance for the Sluggers, allowing six runs on 12 hits and three walks.

Halliwell went 2-for-3 with a double and a run while Kailey Koughan was 2-for-4 with a double and Emily Cairns went 2-for-4.

Isabelle Richard and Ginette Plourde each went 1-for-2 with a walk for the Sluggers.

The Stealers play the Township Tigers under-19 squad Thursday at 6:15 p.m. at City Diamond while the Sluggers play Monday at Queen Elizabeth II Field at 6:30 p.m.
