FREDERICTON – The P.E.I. Junior Islanders’ weekend road trip got off to a rough start on Saturday afternoon.

The Fredericton Royals swept the Islanders in a New Brunswick Junior Baseball League doubleheader at Royals Field. The scores were 8-4 and 2-1.
The Islanders are scheduled to play a pair of games in Chatham, N.B., against the Ironmen on Sunday.

Royals 8 Islanders 4
In Game 1, Nick Hoyt went the distance on mound scattering eight hits for the win. The Royals scored four times in the bottom of the sixth inning to break a 4-4 tie.
Nolan Hicken, who came on in relief of Connor Jones, took the loss for P.E.I.
Jed Noonan and Josh Myers each had two hits, and Connor McGregor homered for the Isles. Mike Leonard and Brett Brittany had two hits each for Royals.

In Game 2, Myers was throwing a no-hitter and nursing a 1-0 lead into the sixth inning. However, Joel Estey doubled, and Brittany homered with two outs for a 2-1 Royals’ win.
Ryan Hornibrook earned the win in relief of starter Ty Poole. The Fredericton pitchers held the Islanders to just four hits – one each from Noonan, McGregor, Brandon Watts and Matt Barlow.
