FREDERICTON, N.B. — The Fredericton Royals scored a pair of first-inning runs to win Saturday’s pitchers’ duel 2-0 over the Charlottetown Gaudet’s Auto Body Islanders.

The host Royals took Game 2 of the New Brunswick Senior Baseball League doubleheader 11-1 in six innings to complete the sweep.

Shawn Reid allowed three singles in the opener while striking out five for the victory. Jordan Stevenson allowed two unearned runs in the loss. The ace allowed three singles and walked three while striking out two.

Darcy Affleck, Logan Gallant Morgan Murphy had the Isles hits.

Defence hurt the Islanders in Game 2 as well as they committed three errors in the lopsided loss.

Tyler Johnston was tagged with the loss after allowing five runs, including three unearned, in three innings of work. He allowed three hits, walked three and struck out three.

Affleck allowed six earned runs on six hits and three walks in two innings of relief.

Jordan Drier scattered three singles and struck out five for the win.

Taylor Larkin, Charles MacLellan and Murphy had the Isles hits.

Fredericton improved to 5-1 while Charlottetown dropped to 3-6.
The Islanders host Saint John Saturday for a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
