Ryan McMahon and Josh Fuentes hit home runs Saturday as the last-place Colorado Rockies prevented the Los Angeles Dodgers from reaching 100 wins with a 4-2 victory at Dodger Stadium.
It was the first victory in eight tries at Los Angeles this season for the Rockies, who also ended a 12-game losing streak at Dodger Stadium going back to last season. Colorado has won just four times in 18 overall meetings this season, with the final game of the season series Sunday.
The Rockies (67-88) continued to pester right-hander Walker Buehler, who is a possible No. 1 starter for Los Angeles when the playoffs open in less than two weeks. Buehler has given up 17 earned runs over his last three starts against the Rockies, but he also had a career-best 16-strikeout game against them earlier this season.
Buehler (13-4) gave up four runs on five hits with three walks and five strikeouts over six-plus innings, and was removed after giving up Fuentes' home run to lead off the seventh inning. It was Fuentes' third homer of the season.
McMahon hit his 23rd home run of the season to lead off the second inning as the Rockies took a 1-0 lead. The Rockies made it 3-0 in the third inning on RBI singles from Raimel Tapia and Charlie Blackmon.
The Dodgers (99-56) closed to within a run in the fourth inning after Corey Seager hit an RBI triple and Russell Martin singled home Seager. Fuentes' homer gave the Rockies a 4-2 lead.
Expected to start Chi Chi Gonzalez, the Rockies went with left-hander Kyle Freeland instead as an opener and he gave up three hits over two scoreless innings. Gonzalez (2-6) entered in the third inning and gave up two runs (both unearned) on two hits over five innings with a walk and eight strikeouts. Jairo Diaz pitched a perfect ninth inning for his fifth save in eight chances.
Gonzalez, who is working his way back from Tommy John surgery, has not given up more than two earned runs in any of his four September outings after posting an 11.81 ERA in five August outings.
