CALGARY, Alta. — The P.E.I. Stars dropped their opening game at the under-16 Canadian girls’ softball championship on Wednesday.
British Columbia Team 8 scored four runs in each of the first two innings en route to an 8-1 victory in 4 ½ innings in Calgary.
Sophia Jeffery went 2-for-2 with a triple, a single, an RBI and accounted for the Island squad’s only hits. Lindsay Drover scored the run while Brenna Ing was the lone member of the team to walk.
Andrea Caron allowed eight runs, including two unearned, on nine hits and two walks in four innings. She struck out one.
P.E.I. made three errors for an .864 fielding percentage.
They are behind Saskatoon 4-0 through three innings in the second game of the day.
