MORELL, P.E.I. — The Northside Gill Construction Brewers will begin their first ever Kings Count Baseball League championship defence Sunday when they host the Cardigan Clippers at the Church Diamond in Morell.
The game starts at 2 p.m. as the circuit begins its 29th season. It is one of three games on opening day in the six-team league.
The Peakes Bombers are at home at MacDonald Field to take on Stratford Athletics, which is also a 2 p.m. start. An old team with a new name opens its season at Memorial Field as the Grant Thornton Tigers, formerly the Action Aero Expos, host the Morell Chevies at 6 p.m.
The Chevies will host the Bombers Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. in their home opener.
Two other games also go Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
Cardigan is home at Clipper Field to do battle with the Tigers while the Athletics entertain the Brewers at MacNeil Field.
All teams vying for playoff positions will play a 24-game schedule with the regular season set to finish up on Aug. 14.
The Charlottetown Jays oldtimers squad and the P.E.I. Youth Selects will each play a half schedule. The Jays first game will be at Memorial Field on Sunday, May 26, when they play the Athletics. The Selects begin their schedule with a doubleheader at Memorial Field against the Tigers and Athletics.
