Junior Islanders playing Mudcats today in Moncton in first-place showdown

The P.E.I. Junior Islanders hosted the Chatham Ironmen for their first games of the New Brunswick Junior Baseball League regular season Sunday at Memorial Field.

SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. — The first-place P.E.I. Islanders begin a busy weekend of New Brunswick Junior Baseball League action with a doubleheader today in Moncton before hosting Chatham for two games Sunday in Summerside.

Today’s doubleheader, which will be a first-place showdown with the second-place Metro Mudcats, starts at noon.

It will be the first meeting of the season between the five-team circuit’s leaders.

The Islanders (8-2) are expected to start Nolan Hicken and Chandler Laporte on the mound in the two games against the 6-2 Mudcats.

On Sunday, the Isles host the fourth-place Chatham Ironmen (5-8) in a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. at Legends Field in Summerside.
Gabe Penalver, Patrick Gallant and Alex Jabbour are scheduled to see time on the hill for the home side.

The Islanders continue to be led offensively by Connor McGregor, John Savidant and Ryne MacIsaac. McGregor leads the league with a lofty .472 average. Savidant is a close second at .467while MacIsaac also is in the top 10 and leads the league in walks and runs scored.
